this morning awoke

Locked! - updated
Tonight my bowling team finishes out our dreadful season of being in last place. We bowled so poorly off and on this season, that we locked the last-place spot three weeks ago. Not a bad accomplishment! But, there is some good news... we'll finish the season with a new team record. That's right, we officially have the worst winning percentage of any team in VML's Bowling League history. Awww yeah, my name is ALL over that.
In other bowling new, midway through this season I finally went off the deep end and bought my own bowling ball. I'm legit now. I don't throw the pseudo-curve now, I bowl like a real bowler. And I've seen my weekly average go up every week since I bought the ball. Week one: 129, week two: 133, week three: 143, and last week: 144. I think I'm getting a hold of it now, but it'll take a while to really get the average up there. I'll keep you all up to date.
UPDATED:
Well, we lost two of four last night. Thanks to Basham's 225 in the first game (87 pins over his average). We won the second and third games, but lost overall pins by 21. A shame really, but like said above, it didn't really matter. On the other hand, my average went up again... I bowled a 147 this week. Yay me. That should be all the team bowling until fall. I'll hook ya up later.

Family Reunion, of sorts...
Last night in Fayetteville, Arkansas, The Paper Hearts played their first show in over a year. In the past month they all reunited (except for Andrew, who's living in Seattle playing with Aqueduct) and recorded a new five song EP and are now going to play a few shows to promote the new cd. To order the new cd (Hard to Smile), or their full-length (Plans for the Past), just go to Heartshape Records.
The show was incredible! The crowd was very into all of the songs, singing the old ones and intently listening to the new ones. Aaron, Todd, Michelle, and Brian really picked up where they left off, all bringing in new influences from the past year. Damon Singleton took Andrew's place on drums and didn't miss a beat (lame joke).
The Paper Hearts will have a three-city tour in late April - check the dates at their web site. If you're anywhere close by, you should check it out as you may never have another chance again, and that would be a shame for you.

Who's number one? It's we, it's we!
Tonight the basketball team I play for won an exciting game and clinched at least a tie for first to end the season. In a hard fought victory, the opposing team overcame a 18 point deficit, tying it up with less than two minutes to go. Battling back and forth for the remaining two minutes, we finally scored the go ahead basket with two seconds left. The other team couldn't even inbound the ball, and we won.
It was a fun, fun, fun season, and I can't wait to play with those guys again! Now I just need to get some better basketball shoes, ones that fit me and won't bruise my big toes every time I play. Sassafras!!!!1

Guess who's back...
Shooooosh! I'm back from Colorado. What a trip! It was so much fun just being with the guys, but I'm glad to be home so I can unwind. Today is a day of washing clothes and relaxation, a typical Sunday-fare.
The week in Breckenridge was incredible. Waking up each morning to a free (continental) breakfast and then preparing for a full day of snowboarding, only to come back to the hotel to grab a few beers and head down to the hot tub, then lay around, maybe go out, maybe not... it's not a life I could live everyday, but I was glad to do it for a week.
Snowboarding is hard, don't let anyone try to persuade you otherwise. The first day you spend on your butt, or actually, you spend the whole day falling over and over and over on your butt. The hot tub feels mightily good that evening. The days after your horrendous first are wonderful. Your confidence grows and grows and you're finally doing things on your last day that you didn't think you would be able to.
Our last day of snowboarding was so much fun. Todd, Trip and I had a giant snowball fight while going down the mountain. Other highlights include Trip's snowboard/guitar solo, grinding fallen tree trunks in the woods, making up goofy stories on the lift ride up, and me sliding about 50 yards on my belly down a black (right underneath a ski lift).
On our day off we walked around Breckenridge and then walked on the frozen Lake Dillon (which supplies all of Denver with water). The nightlife in Breckenridge is either in full-swing or comatose. One night Aaron's family treated us all to dinner at Eric's (a bar/arcade/burger joint), it was very good, and very nice of them to do that.
So, I'm back in KC now... tired and out of clothes. Work tomorrow, can't wait.

Aaron's big day...
Today, one of my great friends Aaron Weidner (of The Paper Hearts and The New Tragedies) will be a changed man. Today, at the age of 27, Aaron will be saying good-bye to a life-long companion. Today, at 11:00, Aaron will have anesthesia injected into his neck so that his birthmark can be removed.
While at first, and still now, I was saddened by this action, it's more than likely a safe move on his part as some birthmarks develop into skin cancer. Interestingly, almost everyone has a birthmark, and twice as many girls have them than boys. They're usually found in the neck or head region, but most birthmarks go away as children get older.
I'll miss the birthmark, but the birthmark didn't make Aaron who he is. Good luck!

Oh goody!!!!
You know you're a nerd when you get excited about a new Star Wars movie, or happen across a Star Trek film one day and stop to watch it, or better yet, when you're absolutely giddy about a film that opens this August! Alien vs. Predator is that film, and to hopefully get you excited as well, go watch the trailer... now!

What's in Florida?
Today I turned down a job for VML that probably would've landed me in Florida. We just won the Winn-Dixie grocery store account and are staffing up and office down there. While it's very enticing to go down there, the job was in Account Service - or what most creatives call "The Dark Side." It's the client side of the business, schmoozing and all. And that's not where I want my career to go.
Keep your eyes open though, there may be creative opportunities down there as well. We'll see.
