2009 = 2000 No (in German)

I really can't believe it's been over 10 years since we partied like it was 1999. But it has been 10 years. And I'm not so good at partying like that any longer. The healing afterwards is taking longer and longer to achieve. After being at some good friends' parties the past two years, this year Ashlee and I sat on the couch in our PJs, ate appetizers and watched the remaining episodes of Lost: Season Four. I've also been sick since Monday, which means there was no drinking. Just good company.

Today = our day of laziness. We have four movies (two joint movies and two single movies) and there's plenty o' football on television. But today is also when I should reflect on my resolutions from last year, and then set some new ones. So let's see how I did:

  1. Experience at least five cultural events in KC (First Fridays, Museums, Plays, etc.).
I'm pretty sure I accomplished this one, but there's a good chance I didn't. The good news is that our good friends Kati and Darren got us a membership to < href="http://www.nelson-atkins.org/">The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art for 2009. I should be able to over compensate for 2008.
  2. Get rid of my car (this doesn't mean I'll be without a car, just not the one I currently have).
Technically, I failed this one. If you remember, since moving in with each other, Ashlee and I consolidated our lives into one vehicle. As Scoot pointed out, that means I wouldn't be able to mark this resolution off my list. Thanks Scoot. Even though it was a good thing to do financially- and environmentally-wise, I guess you're right.
  3. Pay off remaining credit card debt by mid-year.
Guess what!?! I did it!!! Then we got the hair-brained idea to buy a house and that trend reversed quite quickly. We've since consolidated our debt and have been working with a financial planner to get us beyond minor daily finance stuff. The debt will take a little longer than I'd like it to, but we'll be saving up money at the same time. It's a win-win.
  4. Walk to work at least 100 times.
I think that while we lived downtown (until June), that I was doing a great job here. I was probably near halfway done by the time we moved. That all but stopped then. The nice thing is that we live 100 yards from a bus stop. The not-so-nice thing is that it costs me $1.25 each time I ride the bus and it doesn't really save me time from driving. Ho hum.
  5. Exercise at least 100 times (gym, running, etc.).
On this one, I started off strong, then we signed up with a trainer and were really kicking this one's butt. And then we got lazy. But came back around pre-Thanksgiving. I'm going to say I didn't accomplish this one, but got pretty close.
  6. Go through storage and purge.
Done –even though Ash would disagree. But that's what basements are for, right?
  7. Eat more vegetables.
    Sure did.
  8. One fried food item per week.
    Not so much.

So in terms of me accomplishing my 2008 resolutions, meh. There's always next, or this, year. Here's what I'm thinking:

  1. Pay off car and determine if driving it is worth our time and money.
  2. Stay within established budget parameters and still pay off half our credit card debt.
  3. Exercise at least 100 times (gym, running, etc.).
  4. Control portions!
  5. Complete at least seven home projects.
  6. Write more.
  7. Read more.
  8. Less television.

These are manageable, right? What are your resolutions? Oh, and happy new year!!!

Good thoughts on the New Year and good luck with the resolutions. It sounds like you did a good job last year; better than me. I think I'll work on five for me and five for the business:

1) More time with my beautiful Wife; just a little more us time.
2) Focus on a much healthier diet; I really enjoy cooking and I want to make that a part of my routine.
3) Do a little exercise; walking and stretching and just moving in general.
4) Read a book, maybe more than one.
5) Focus more and multi-task less.

1) Get the studio.
2) Finish the branding; I need an address for this.
3) Get the studio's permits for an event center and get 2/3 rentals in 2009.
4) Shoot more for me to make the book I want.
5) Hit 50% more in gross and 75% more in net numbers (that would be a smaller jump than '07 to '08 but, as we keep getting reminded, it's scary times out there!

The other thing I read today was that it's a better plan to work on a five year goal with one year increments - so I guess I'll go and work all these thoughts into a five year gig.

All the best to you, Ashlee, the cats, the new house and SHS for '09 and let's sink a pint soon.

Reminds me of an answering machine greeting I'd have if it wasn't so long:

"If you'd like to hear the opposite of 'Lost', press 1.

If you'd like a synonym for 'also', press 2.

If you'd like the opposite of 'against', press 4.

If you'd like the past tense of 'to eat', press 8.

And if you'd like the German word for 'no', press 9."
