Public Storage
Today I helped my brother-in-law move his belongings into a Public Storage unit here in Kansas City. Besides the usual goofy employees that work in these facilities, there were some other odd things that I noticed. First off, the storage/moving business seems a bit lucrative... when you can sell a box for $3.75 (or 10 for $32.50 - saving $.50 per box there) and tape gun for $11.99, that's some nice revenue... especially when you get some goobers in there that don't know much about moving. You can buy the same tape gun at Office Depot for $7.99.
Then, something else I noticed that made me laugh. Among the many great, overpriced things you can buy there, one item in particular is essential. Bubble wrap. You know, the thing you steal from whoever has them, so you can pop them with your fingers. Well, it's actually very useful when moving, I've used it many times. But in case you're not sure of what you'd use it for, the company put some illustrations on the side of the box, so you get the idea of how powerful this stuff really is. You can use it for dishes and glassware, a mirror, your television, binoculars, your computer keyboard, any circuit boards you have laying around. The possibili... wait... CIRCUIT BOARDS AND KEYBOARDS!!!??? Talk about integrated marketing, let's get the housewives AND the geeks. Well, it worked, I bought some. Circuit boards, ha!

The Matrix Revoldumponmyface...
I'm finding it harder and harder to get excited about sequels these days. The mindless, barely-able-to-find-a-plot blockbusters are one thing... but for movies that were groundbreaking when they first came out, it's a real shame to see the supposed franchise take a detour for the worst.
Today I saw "The Matrix: Revolutions", and shall I say that I was not impressed with the way this series ended... not in the least. I wasn't a big fan of the second movie, but now I see "Reloaded" standing head and shoulders above the third. What once started off as a very interesting and somewhat mysterious story line in the original "Matrix", has turned into awful writing and worse acting. Sigh, yes even the effects this go around were nothing new.
Go see it, just to say you've seen the entire trilogy, and see it for the giant war in Zion... but other than that, duck and run. Quickly.

Turkey Day is a Comething
I just wanted to wish everyone a "Happy Thanksgiving". If you like Thanksgiving like I do, then you should watch movies like "Home for the Holidays" and "The Myth of Fingerprints". But really, to know what Turkey Day is all about, one needs go no further than here.

The New Tragedies
My great friend Aaron Weidner is in a bad aaa new band called The New Tragedies. They're playing their first public show next Tuesday, November 25, at Davey's Uptown. The show should begin around 9:00ish. Go there, eat food, drink spirits, and enjoy some great music.
