The only wisdom is to rid yourself of it.

Ash had her wisdom teeth removed today. Ouch. I remember when I had mine removed and what a crappy time I had.

It makes me wonder why we even have them. Wiki says that wisdom teeth are the third molars that usually appear between the ages of 16 and 24. For what reason, though? To help vote? Drink alcohol? Get better discounts on car insurance?

Scienceline.com has this to say:

Anthropologists believe wisdom teeth, or the third set of molars, were the evolutionary answer to our ancestor’s early diet of coarse, rough food – like leaves, roots, nuts and meats – which required more chewing power and resulted in excessive wear of the teeth. The modern diet with its softer foods, along with marvels of modern technologies such as forks, spoons and knives, has made the need for wisdom teeth nonexistent. As a result, evolutionary biologists now classify wisdom teeth as vestigial organs, or body parts that have become functionless due to evolution.

So we're victims of evolution? How about we evolve more and NOT get them anymore? That's why evolution is dumb.

All of my wisdom teeth came in fully without crowding and with their help I have reduced the overpopulation of many an animal species.

I still have 3 of the 4. I had one pulled last year. It had gotten a really bad cavity, and my choice was between a root canal where my copay would be about $300 or an extraction where my copy would be about $20.
